A letter from a former cheerleader...
"To anyone who is thinking about trying out for WV Cheer-
I never pictured myself as a cheerleader. I had played soccer majority of my life and had very minimal dance experience, but always enjoyed it when I took dance classes as a kid. I admired the cheer teams confidence and thought to myself how awesome it was that they got to be leaders at within the school as well as leading the ramzone. The girls always looked like they were having so much fun doing stunts and dances at assemblies. Truthfully, the final straw for me trying out was the cute uniforms and fun team bondings I saw them do! I am so thankful I took the leap of faith. From the second I made the team I learned that cheer required more work than I initially thought- to me it was harder than soccer (in a different way). We ran hills, lifted weights and then learned new dance material all before 10am in the summers. I found myself loving new stunting challenges and bonding with my stunt group when we finally nailed it! Throughout my time on WV cheer I gained confidence, leadership skills and a dozen friendships. If you are slightly considering trying out (even if it's just for the uniform), go for it. Believe in yourself, take the leap of faith and I promise you that you won't regret being a part of this team!
